How to choose your findings for DIY jewelry making?
Findings form the technical framework of a piece of jewelry. Even the most beautiful beads or natural stones cannot be showcased without suitable and reliable components.
The choice of findings first depends on the technique used. Chain creations generally require jump rings, clasps, and sometimes extension chains. Beaded jewelry often uses eye pins, headpins, bead caps, or crimp beads.
The material also plays an essential role. Stainless steel findings offer excellent resistance to daily wear. Sterling silver 925 and Gold Filled are preferred for high-end creations. Brass findings, on the other hand, allow for a wide variety of designs and original finishes.
When purchasing, always check for dimension compatibility: ring diameter, pin thickness, bail size, or end cap inner diameter. A few tenths of a millimeter can sometimes make the difference between a simple assembly and an impossible one.
